Marking World Hepatitis Day, data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reveal a significant public health challenge. An estimated five million people in the European Union and European Economic area (EU/EEA) are living with chronic hepatitis B or C – infections that are leading causes of liver disease and cancer – with the majority of people unaware they are infected.
